Sporting CP/Casa do Povo de Messines/AMAL in 3rd in the final of the National Handball in Wheelchair

Lagoa hosted the final stage of the National Championship

The Algarve team of Sporting CP/Casa do Povo de Messines/AMAL, ranked 3rd in the final phase of the National Wheelchair Handball Championship – ACR6, which was played this Sunday, the 28th, at the Jacinto Municipal Pavilhão Belt, in Lagoa.

This final had the participation of five teams. In addition to the Algarve team, teams from Setúbal, Seixal, Porto and Leiria were also present. These last two were the finalists, having played the final game against each other, from which APD Leiria won.

"In the year in which Lagoa asserts itself as an inclusive city, even more important than the results obtained is the enormous enthusiasm of the participants, the delivery of the players, the respect among all, and the fair play that marked this event", he stated at the end Luís Encarnação, vice president and councilor for sport at Câmara de Lagoa.

This “Handball 4 All” journey, which selected the national champion of the sport, resulted from a partnership between the Municipality of Lagoa, the Algarve Handball Association and the Portuguese Handball Federation. It is part of the 3rd axis of the municipality's Sports Development Strategy: “Lagoa Acolhe Grandes Eventos”.

Handball is a sport with a strong tradition in Lagoa. Already this inclusive aspect is registering an increasing development in our country.

Handball in a wheelchair is played by people with impaired motor functions, particularly in terms of their legs, or other disorders that prevent them from running, jumping and jumping like those who have no injuries. It can also be practiced by people without disabilities.
