The Câmara de Lagos and the Biblioteca de Loulé will join the commemorations of the centenary of the birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, which take place, at national level, between March and November.
The municipality of Lacobrigense and the library of Loulé will promote a program in partnership, to join the party, which is being organized, at national level, by the National Center of Culture. The complete program can be downloaded here (PDF format).
A colloquium on the theme “The Mediterranean and the Atlantic in Sophia”, to be held on 3 October, at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, is one of the initiatives that have already been confirmed. «Organized into four roundtables, this international colloquium is dedicated to addressing, around Sophia's work, the theme of the sea, the dialogue with poets from the South, the importance of stories for children and the presence of the sacred in poetry”, according to the City Council of Lagos.
The municipality of Lacobrigense will also host a presentation of the musical tale “A Menina do Mar”, based on one of Sophia's most famous and beloved stories. The show will premiere in May, in Lisbon, and will come to Lagos on a date yet to be defined.
«Thematic itineraries are also being developed by the CNC in Lisbon, Porto and Lagos, with the aim of making known the life, personality and work of the poet», added the municipality.
These commemorations “are carried out from an idea and at the initiative of her daughter, Maria Andresen Sousa Tavares, poet and plastic artist, who, under her mother's mandate, takes care of her work. The program includes literary, artistic, musical and cinematographic creations, colloquiums, conferences, editions, shows, exhibitions, in Portugal and abroad».
Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen's Centenary Commemorations Commission, based at the Centro Nacional de Cultura, proposes “a living and vast program, ambitious and up-to-date, in which all facets are registered and reflected at the same time one and multiplied of Sophia».
