Algarve businessmen want minimal services in fuel strike

Vítor Neto asks the Government not to shirk "its responsibilities"

Vítor Neto, president of NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, calls on the Government to “immediately grant the Algarve the same fuel supply guarantees decided on for Lisbon and Porto”, ie the extension of minimum services.

The NERA leader went public with a reaction to the strike, saying that "it is urgent to stop this process".

“The damage caused is already visible. We are talking about the region's residents, the thousands of tourists who travel to the Algarve during this [Easter] period and the activity of hundreds of companies from the most varied sectors that guarantee the functioning of the sectors of the economy related to tourism», he says Vítor Neto, in a statement.

For the president of NERA, "the economic activity of the entire region is at stake during a particularly important period of the year."

Vítor Neto asks the Government not to shirk "its responsibilities" and use "all legal means at its disposal to defend the common interest, of the region and the country."

As for NERA, “it will continue the action it has been carrying out with the institutional bodies of the Region and the Government”, he concludes.

Like Sul Informação advanced, the District Civil Protection Commission he will also ask the government to extend the minimum services, which guarantee a 30% supply, to the Algarve, and António Costa, prime minister, said today that he is already studying the possibility.

However, the effects are already felt in the rent-a-car companies. João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, in statements to our newspaper, predicted that there may be constraints on tourist performance.
