Film clubs celebrate your day and there's also a party in the Algarve

In the Algarve, celebrations reach Alcoutim and Olhão

Film Club Day will be celebrated for the first time in 2019, and the celebrations will also reach the Algarve. The Film Clubs of Faro and from Tavira joined this party, which the Portuguese Federation of Film Clubs (FPCC) will promote from 12 to 18 April.

The Film Club Day, an initiative that, according to its organizers, "intends to be a moment of celebration of film club activity and to remember its historical, social, educational and cultural contribution", is commemorated for the first time on April 14, 2019 .

In the Algarve, celebrations are divided between Alcoutim and Olhão. In the first case, the Northeast Algarve was chosen to host the next session of the Video Lucem project, on Friday, the 12th.

Ana Brandão and João Paulo Esteves da Silva will be at Espaço Guadiana to set music and accompany the film “Um Grito na Noite”, by the Algarve Carlos Porfírio, a work whose sound has been lost.

However, in Olhão, the International Film and Literature Festival will be held until Saturday, an initiative of the Cineclube de Tavira where the many connections between these two arts are being explored and films, books, tours, a filmic menu and even a psychomagic filmic-literary office are being served.

According to the Portuguese Federation of Film Clubs, the choice of the 14th to celebrate these cultural associations «has the dual purpose of celebrating the foundation of the first film club in the world, which appeared in Paris on April 14, 1907, and at the same time celebrate the appearance of the film club in activity for a longer period of time in Portugal – on April 13, 1945 the “Clube Português de Cinematografia” was born, which later added the suffix “Cineclube do Porto”».

On the federation's website, the commemorations of this ephemeris can be followed, where the updated agenda of all events organized in the film clubs that joined the festivities is presented.

Also part of the Cineclub Day festivities, the films nominated for the António Loja Neves Award will be announced on April 14th. This initiative of the FPCC intends, simultaneously, to honor the film club director António Loja Neves and the Portuguese-speaking African Countries cinema.
