Tavira students warn against mistreatment with a blue human bond

The Blue Ribbon Campaign started in 1989

Students from school groups in the municipality of Tavira come together, on the 30th of April, at 10 am, in Praça da República, to form a blue human bond and thus raise awareness of the issue of child abuse.

April is the month for the prevention of this scourge and the Committee for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ) of Tavira, with the support of the municipality, promotes a set of actions to raise awareness of this cause.

The dissemination of this campaign also provides for the realization of radio programs with the aim of raising awareness of child abuse, as well as sensitizing the entire community to the CPCJ's mission. The Town Hall building, during this period, will be illuminated in blue as a symbol of this campaign.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989, in Virginia (United States of America), when a grandmother, Bonnie W. Finney, tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car, after the death of her grandchildren by beating by the mother and boyfriend.

And why blue? Because, while blue was a beautiful color, Bonnie didn't want to forget the beaten, bruised bodies of her two grandchildren. Blue, which symbolizes the color of the injuries, would serve as a constant reminder of his struggle to protect children from abuse.
