The Algarve Jazz Gourmet Moments Festival will have its 3rd edition between the 24th and 26th of May and will bring to the Centro Cultural de Lagos big names from the international scene of this style of music.
Benny Goldson, Peter Cincotti and Ed Motta are the artists who will be at this “365Algarve” event, organized by the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve (OJA) and under the artistic direction of Hugo Alves. Anyone who wants to can guarantee their place in one of the three concert nights.
To launch the event, on the 24th of May, the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve prepared «a unique show, purposefully conceived for this festival». On stage will be the American saxophonist Benny Golson «who, at 90 years of age, is a true jazz legend – a venerable tenor, a born storyteller and one of the world's leading jazz composers, who has always remained ahead of his time,” according to OJA.
Benny Golson wrote over 300 compositions, including the iconic “Whisper Not” and “I Remember Clifford”, and played “with the cream of jazz”, joining musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey in marking jazz across generations . This will be his first performance with the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve.
He will be accompanied on piano and voice by Grammy nominee Dena DeRose, "who is considered one of the best jazz pianists in the world of her generation" and is "the author of 10 acclaimed original albums".
On the second day of the festival, May 25th, an exclusive concert by New Yorker Peter Cincotti will be presented.
«”Long Way from Home” is the title of his latest album, which is being held in the Algarve for the first time. A true kaleidoscope of moods and colors, which brings together pop, rock, blues, hip hop, funk and jazz, and where all these styles are masterfully linked by the unmistakable sound of its piano», describe the event's organizers.
Peter Cincotti is a renowned artist who has performed in some of the most prestigious theaters in the world, from Carnegie Hall to Olympia in Paris, having collaborated with artists such as Andrea Bocelli and David Guetta and «participated in highly successful films, as it is the case of Spiderman 2».
"Peter is also in fashion and represented the brands Ermenegildo Zegna and Tod's and recently appeared, like himself, in the third season of the series Netflix House Of Cards singing a duet with the president in the series, played by Kevin Spacey", according to the OJA.
On the 26th, a Sunday, the festival closes "with a golden key", with a concert by the "acclaimed Brazilian musician Ed Motta, considered a cult musician, inexhaustible composer, a tireless discoverer of forms, a creator who recognizes no limits ».
Nephew of the famous Brazilian singer and composer Tim Maia, «his music is rooted in the Funk / Soul and Disco styles, but moving into Jazz, bossa nova and reggae».
