São Brás gained a water supply point to fight fires

Ponto de Água was born on the site of the former WWTP in this county

São Brás de Alportel has a new supply point for aerial means to fight forest fires. The water point of Hortas e Moinhos "greatly strengthens the response capacity of the municipality's means of combat," assured the São Brasense Chamber.

This fire-fighting water supply site, which was presented yesterday, was created on the site of the former São Brás de Alportel Waste Water Station, to the south of the village.

Composed of a main supply tank with a capacity of approximately 180m3 of water and a support tank with a capacity of 120 m3, «the Water Point is exclusively powered by spring water, constituting a totally sustainable and ecological project» .

“The defense of our forest and our populations is a matter of first priority. An exhaustive survey of all existing water points in the municipality, as well as their accesses, was recently carried out, so that we can be better prepared. Prevention is the best way and the most powerful weapon in combating the scourge of rural fires», according to Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás de Alportel.

In addition to the public presentation of this new water point, the City Council of São Brás de Alportel also took advantage of the celebration of the world days of the Forest (the 21st) and the Water (the 22nd) to visit municipal land located in Campina, which recently hosted actions of reforestation, with the planting of holm oaks in a global area of 30.000m2.
