Largest frozen fish factory in the Iberian Peninsula opens in Lagos

Investment valued at 20 million euros creates 100 new direct jobs

The largest fish and mollusc freezing factory in the Iberian Peninsula, at an investment estimated at 20 million euros, is officially inaugurated this Friday, in Lagos, by the Minister of the Sea.

Lagos was chosen by the Battaglia Capital SA Group, led by Nuno Battaglia, Jorge Grave and António Castel-Branco, to implement this project, presented as «one of the most advanced in the process of processing and freezing fish in the world».

The project, according to its promoters, is based on a model «totally sustainable for the workers, for the environment and for the market».

«We value our people, our customers, the communities in which we operate and the environment», explains Nuno Battaglia, chairman of the Group. Therefore, adds the businessman, «we are looking for businesses that are economically sustainable and, at the same time, beneficial to people and the environment, which is clearly the case for Congelagos».

With the capacity to process 300 tons of fish a day and store 5400 tons of frozen foods, Congelagos sells the highest quality fish and shellfish from Portugal, Madeira and the Azores, in particular undervalued species such as mackerel and horse mackerel .

Born in Lagos, Nuno Battaglia built his career in the United States of America, where he lived for 27 years. Fulfilled the American dream, the businessman returned to Portugal, in order to make a difference in the city that saw him grow, and it is before the memories of a life linked to the sea that he builds Congelagos, whose purpose is to dynamize and restructure the sector of fisheries at national level, based on the strongest principles of sustainability of natural resources.

Battaglia Capital SA is an international investment group headquartered in Lagos, with diversified projects in fisheries, aquaculture, food industry, real estate development and civil construction, among others.

The Group claims to invest "in financially, socially and environmentally sustainable business models, preferably that leverage underutilized natural resources".

The mission is “to lead a new development strategy for the Country and Europe, based on its values ​​and its own culture, rejecting traditional models”, they conclude.

The inauguration of the new factory is scheduled for 17:30 pm on Friday, the 22nd, and will be chaired by the Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino, by the Secretary of State for Fisheries José Apolinário and also by the Mayor of Lagos, Maria Joaquina Matos.

This ceremony turns out to be the kick-off for the XNUMXst Congress of Lands of the Infante, which will take place the following day, Saturday, in Lagos, precisely with the Sea as its general theme. Battaglia Group at Congelagos will be one of the topics covered.
