In April… thousand events in the region

The Feast of the Sovereign Mother, in Loulé, the Walking Festival Ameixial, the International Film and Literature Festival in Olhão and a concert by Dino d'Santiago, in Faro, are proposed to leave the house in April. 

Every year, thousands of believers and tourists visit Loulé to follow the Sovereign Mother's festivities and this year will be no exception.

On the 21st, the Festa Pequena takes place, which lasts for 15 days of liturgical celebrations until the day of Festa Grande (May 5th), the high point of the entire festival.

Also on the 21st, the Festa das Torchas Floridas, in São Brás, returns to the streets to liven up Easter Sunday for the community and for the tourists who travel there.

Because we are precisely in the month of Easter, in addition to these celebrations, the “Guia Algarve” also has many other religious events throughout the region, such as the Adoration of the Cross and Procession of the Burial of the Lord, in the Igreja Matriz in Paderne, on the 19th. (21:00) or the Solemn Easter Eucharist and Procession of the Resurrection of the Lord in Portimão, leaving the Igreja Matriz on the 21st (10:00).

In April, the guide also highlights the 7th Walking Festival Ameixial. During three days (26, 27 and 28) there will be walks, lectures, workshops and even music, in a project integrated in the “Algarve Walking Season”.

In sports, it will be time for the International Speed ​​Skating Tournament “Terras do Infante”, from 5 to 7 in Lagos. For the third consecutive year, Lagos will host the European Cup with three days of high-quality speed skating events, with teams from all over the world.

In Quarteira, one of the most prestigious Triathlon competitions in Portugal will take place – the 2019 ETU Quarteira European CUP -, on the 27th and 28th. The event has around 300 foreign athletes from 35 countries, but also the best national triathletes. The Quarteira International Triathlon has been included since 2009 in the European Cup for Elites and Juniors and in the Portuguese Cup.

Dino D'Santiago is the headliner in music, in a concert scheduled for Teatro das Figuras, on the 20th.

In addition to the singer from Quarteira, the Algarve will hear this month, on the 5th, in Albufeira, Viviane, who will interpret Piaf through the versatility of her voice. On the 12th and 13th, Faro receives, at Teatro Lethes (21:30), the 6th International Blues Festival of Faro, featuring appearances by Li'l Twister, Little G Weevil, Guitar Not So Slim and the Budda Power Blues.

In Loulé, Som Riscado – Loulé Music and Image Festival returns, a unique festival that fosters crossovers and creative dialogues between experimental music and the universes of image and visual arts, as well as exploratory approaches to sound art . To see on the 12th and 14th in various spaces in the city.

The play “The neighbors from above” (11th at Teatro das Figuras, Faro, at 21 pm), the textile art exhibition “Um look without end” (on the 30th at the João Bailote Municipal Gallery, in Albufeira) and the competition for young dancers Dançarte – Algarve International Dance Competitions (from 27 to 6 at Teatro das Figuras). ) are other cultural suggestions for tourists and residents.

The 365 Algarve cultural program also has events to be presented in April. Mário Laginha and the Quarteto de Matosinhos, at the Cineteatro Louletano, on the 18th (21:30 pm), and the Traversée with Tatiana Mosio, in Aljezur, in yet another Lavrar o Mar project, on the 21st (16:30 pm), are unmissable initiatives.

The 5th edition of the International Festival Encontros do DeVIR not only fills the agenda with various dance performances, such as Collective Loss of Memory (Czech Republic), on the 20th, at the Algarve Performing Arts Centre, in Faro (21:30 pm), as is also noted in plastic arts exhibitions.

In the cinema, you can participate in the FLICO – Olhão International Film and Literature Festival (from 4 to 13), festival in its first edition that puts cinema and literature in dialogue and which includes, in addition to films and a competitive section, writing workshops, performances and film tours (see program here). Or watch the cine-concert Video Lucem – “Um Grito na Noite”, on the 12th, in Alcoutim, with live sound design based on the original script of the film “Um scream na Noite”.

Still within the scope of "365Algarve" you will be able to discover the region through several staged visits to the historical past of Loulé, Castro Marim and Faro or watch the Elastic theatre, in the unlikely setting of Culatra Island (on the 26th, at 18:00).
