The Educational Circuit of the Pinheiros de Marim Sports and Leisure Park, in Olhão, opened this Thursday, March 21, World Tree Day.
«This is a set of six panels, distributed throughout the city's largest green lung, which provide information on the autochthonous flora and fauna, invasive plants and, in general, aim to instill in children and adults respect for nature and for the environment”, says the Chamber of Olhão.
«Cases were also installed in various places of the Sports and Leisure Park, intended to facilitate the nesting of insectivorous birds, which feed on the processionary, thus helping to control this pest».
This activity, under the responsibility of the Municipality of Olhão, «intends to promote educational content in the context of environmental literacy, but also to take advantage of the potential of the Pinheiros de Marim Sports and Leisure Park, through the structuring of an educational environmental circuit , creating an open-air classroom that brings children closer to the region's natural resources», says the municipality.
The Educational Circuit is part of the “There is life in Pinheiros de Marim” project, with which the Chamber intends to encourage the connection of children with nature.
At first, there is an activity in the context of the classroom, after which the children of the municipality have the opportunity to visit the Sports and Leisure Park of Pinheiros de Marim, in order to promote experimentation and learning through observation and direct contact with nature.
The opening was given to two 3rd year classes, from the schools at Largo da Feira and N.º5. Over the next few weeks, all 4th grade classes in the municipality will have the opportunity to tour the circuit.
The Pinheiros de Marim Sports and Leisure Park is located in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
The vegetation, typical of the Mediterranean, hides inviting paths for hiking.
There is also an open-air gym, with various equipment for physical maintenance, in addition to three different routes, which provide the perfect atmosphere for the practice of physical activity and for combating everyday stress, in the midst of nature.
A picnic area, a children's playground, a dog park with more than 4.000 square meters, a sports area and, now, the Educational Circuit, complement this sports and leisure area located at the gates of the city of Olhão.
