Vicente de Mateos, cyclist from Louletano/Aviludo, took 3rd place in the 1st stage of the Volta ao Alentejo, held this Wednesday, March 20, between Montemor-o-Novo and Moura.

The longest run in Alentejo, with 208,1 kilometers, defined the first yellow jersey: the Spaniard Enric Sanz (Euskadi Basque Country-Murias) who completed the stage in 5 hours, 6 minutes and 43 seconds.

The end was played by sprint, so Vicente de Mateos cut the finish line with the same time as the winner.

On the part of Sporting/Tavira, the other Algarve team in the competition, Grigorev was the one who got the best position, finishing in 8th place with more seconds than Enric Sanz.

In the top 20, the highlight goes to two people from the Algarve. Samuel Caldeira finished in 12th place (5 hours, 6 minutes and 46 seconds) and João Rodrigues in 17th (5 hours, 6 minutes and 47 seconds).
