Zeca lived and taught in Lagos

This will be a tour through the historical places and references of the old “Marítimo Commitment” of Lagos, one of three in the Algarve, of which there are still built remains. The other two are in Ferragudo, where there was also a show similar to this one, and Olhão.

As the Vicentina association, promoter of the initiative, explains, this is “an original cultural program that starts from the idea of a place committed to the fruits of its history linked to the sea”. The Maritime Commitments, created in the Middle Ages, were a kind of fishermen's brotherhoods, paid for by themselves.

The program starts at 18:00 next to the Statue of São Gonçalo de Lagos. After the tour through the city, the public will watch, at Galeria Lar, the concert-recital “Utopia” by Ana Sofia Paiva & Marco Oliveira.

Zeca Afonso

And this will be a spectacle that will immerse you in what was Lagos' past. “Utopia” pays homage to José Afonso, based on the poetic density of Zeca, who once lived and taught in Lagos.

In addition, one of the singer's best-known songs tells the story of the “Indians from Meia Praia” who lived “right there at the foot of Lagos”.

At the end, all participants will be offered a tasting of the flavors of the sea.

As Sónia Felicidade, responsible for organizing this event, had already explained to the Sul Informação, at the time of the “Marítimo Commitment” in Ferragudo, this is a project that intends to “give prominence to the fishing communities that still exist and their knowledge, which is undervalued”.

«It's going back to the past, what we were, the Algarve as a land of seafarers, of fishermen, which shaped us as we are, but also referring to the present and trying to value communities and their activities. Fishing may no longer be the main activity of these communities, but it continues to be at the root of their identity and, even at an economic level, it continues to be important», he considered.

The public will have at their disposal two types of tickets: 15 euros (complete program, route, tasting and show) and 7,5 euros, with show and tasting only.

Anyone who wants to buy tickets can do so here  Tickets are also available at Worten, Agencies Abreu, LAC and Associação Vicentina, and on the day of the event at the venue by reservation (282 680 120).

“Marítimo Commitment” has the support of the program “365Algarve”.
