CHUA marks National Stroke Patient Day with screenings, lectures and walk

The Stroke Unit (CVA) and the Rehabilitation Nursing Center of the Hospital Units of Portimão and Lagos of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) promote, between March 31 and April 5, activities aimed at raising awareness and prevention population, thus marking the National Day of Patients with Stroke.

The celebrations begin on March 31, with a photographic exhibition at the hall entrance to the central building of the Hospital Unit of Faro.

On April 1st, at 9:00 am, the opening session will take place in the Auditorium of Escola Secundária João de Deus, in Faro, which is attended by Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, Ana Paula Gonçalves, president of the Board of Directors of CHUA, Mahomede Americano, clinical director of CHUA, Filomena Martins, nurse director of CHUA, Carlos Luís, director of the João de Deus Schools Group (Faro), and Ana Paula Fidalgo, coordinator of the AVC Unit at CHUA.

During the event, the physician Ana Paula Fidalgo will address the topic «Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA), what is it? Signs and Symptoms”, followed by Célia Lopes, nutritionist at CHUA, with the theme “Nutrition and stroke – there is a relationship”.

The session ends with the presentation of the sports offer in the municipality of Faro, by Jorge Candeias, head of the Promotion, Sports and Youth Unit of the Municipality of the Algarve capital.

On the 3rd, with the support of the group «Footprints to the Wednesday», the «Caminhada do AVC» will take place in the city of Faro, scheduled to start at 19:30 pm, at Forum Algarve. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of sport in quality of life and in preventing this type of disease.

The schedule of the commemorations ends on April 5th with a screening of vascular risk factors for the population, which takes place at the Municipal Market of Faro, at 8:00 am, with the purpose of detecting possible risk cases, as well as advising, sensitizing and informing about the stroke.

 

The Rehabilitation Nursing Center of the Hospital Units of Portimão and Lagos promotes community initiatives

Also within the scope of the National Stroke Patients' Day initiatives, the Rehabilitation Nursing Center of the Hospital Units of Portimão and Lagos of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) promotes a set of awareness-raising actions aimed at the population.

On April 1st, the multidisciplinary team promotes an awareness-raising action at the Pontal Pensioners Association – Portimão e Não Só. The opening session, starting at 10:00 am, is attended by a representative of the Board of Directors and the coordinator of the Rehabilitation Nursing Center.

Thus, in order to mark this date, for 10:15 a training session is scheduled on «Prevention of Stroke (CVA)» with nurse Helena Gaspar, followed by another on «Risk Factors» associated with the disease with Alexandra Ávila, scheduled to start at 10:45.

The schedule continues with the presentation by the Stroke Survivors Mutual Aid Group, at 11:00 am, by the nurse Ivone Máximo.

The activity plan also includes a screening of risk factors, starting at 11:15 am, to be carried out by nurses from the rehabilitation nursing nucleus, which is available to the population free of charge, as a way of signaling possible cases prone to the occurrence of stroke.

This initiative is organized by the CHUA Rehabilitation Nursing Nucleus of the Portimão/Lagos Hospital Units and takes place between 10:00 and 17:00.
