Portimão School Libraries Celebrate Reading Week

Sofia Furtado and Analita Alves dos Santos are the guest writers

“Today Reader, Tomorrow Reader” is the theme of the Reading Week that takes place from March 11th to 15th at the School Libraries of Portimão, with the participation of writers Analita Santos and Sofia Furtado. 

Promoted by the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library in collaboration with school libraries, the Reading Week is marked at national level within the scope of the National Reading Plan «with the aim of remembering that every week is a week of reading and that reading is Literature is one of the main instruments to guarantee our freedom», says the Portimão Chamber.

This edition aims to promote the study and dissemination of the work of a writer, selected at the beginning of each school year, involving students, teachers, the school library and the educational community. The study of the author's work is integrated into the activities of the school library, for this school year, through individual or collective reading, dramatizations, various competitions, book fairs. The project culminates in a meeting with the writer, who visits each school library.

The program for the 13th Week of Reading in School Libraries of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education in Portimão will include, on March 11th, EB1 Montes de Alvor, EB1 Montes de Alvor and EB2,3 D. João II, with the writer Analita Saints visiting these schools.

The writer will be, on the 12th, at EB1 Coca Maravilhas, at EB 1 Vendas and at EB23 Eng. Nuno Mergulhão and, on the 13th, at EB23 D. Martinho Castelo Branco and at EB1 at Centro Escolar do Pontal.

The following day, Analita Santos will visit EB1 Major David Neto, EB23 Prof. José Buisel and the EB1 Mexilhoeira Grande

Finally, on March 15th, the author Analita will tell many stories at EB1 do Chão das Donas, at EB1 Pedra Mourinha and at EB23 Júdice Fialho.

Writer Sofia Furtado will dynamize some sessions with the presentation of the book “Mel, a special bee”, and her presence at the School Library of Coca Maravilhas and the School Library of Sales is already scheduled for March 11th.

On March 12, the writer will celebrate the reading at the School Library at EB1 Chão das Donas, EB1 at Pedra Mourinha and at EB1 Major David Neto.

Analita Alves dos Santos was born in Germany on the 20th of October 1974. She has a bachelor's degree in Marketing and a Post-Graduate degree in Management completed in 2002 at the University of Algarve. Reading and writing have always been his greatest passions. Since she was a little girl, she has dreamed of writing books and sharing her stories with children and adults.

She lives in the Algarve, is married and the mother of two daughters who inspire her every day to imagine meaningful stories. “A Irmandade da Rocha – Daniela eo Uriço-do-mar” is his first literary adventure in the universe of children and youth. It's also chronicler in Sul Informação.

Sofia Furtado was born in Loulé in 1978 and lives in Lagos. He graduated in Special Education and Rehabilitation and began working closely with children and the elderly. The awakening to children's literature started with the growth of the son, who at a certain point did not ask his mother to tell stories, but rather to invent them. The writer goes to School Libraries to present the work “Mel, a special bee”.
