Boat stranded at the entrance to the port of Portimão does not create a risk of pollution

Operations to remove the vessel from the site are already underway

The maritime tourist vessel «Manguito», that ran aground on Marina beach yesterday, next to Praia da Rocha and at the entrance to the port of Portimão, it is not creating "a risk of pollution by hydrocarbons, since the fuel tanks are intact", revealed today the National Maritime Authority.

The operations to remove the vessel from the site are already underway, and are expected to be completed «during today».

The damaged vessel ran aground inside the port, on the Marina beach, in order to avoid sinking, with 32 passengers (including five children) being rescued by lifeboats, not requiring medical assistance.

Witnesses at the scene told the Sul Informação that the arrival of the means of assistance was “very fast” and that the operation to rescue the passengers “was carried out with all efficiency”.

A Maritime Police vessel and two vessels from Ferragudo's Salva-Vidas Station were mobilized to help.

The picket of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão received yesterday, March 2, at 16:20 pm, the alert of a maritime tourist vessel, indicating that it had a leak on board, and was sailing back to the port of Portimao.
