Portimão once again dedicates the month of March to young people

Sport, culture, education and volunteering are part of the program

March is once again dedicated to youth, in Portimão. On Friday, the 21st edition of the Young March starts, with a program full of initiatives in the areas of sport, dance, education, music, theater, among others.

The opening party for this event is scheduled for Friday, the 1st, at 16:30 pm, at Escola Secundária Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

In the year in which Portimão is the European City of Sport for 2019, the program foresees a lot of free sports offer.

Highlight for the solidarity party scheduled for Saturday, with a mega zumba class at the Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha, «with the collected goods reverting to the victims of the fires in Monchique», according to the City Council of Portimão.

On the 7th, 8th and 9th, the National Meeting of Surfing Sports Training Centers will take place in Praia da Rocha and from the 29th to the 31st of March the sports pavilion will host the third edition of the Algarve – Portimão Box Cup 2019.

But young people from Portimo can also count on another type of offer, namely adapted yoga classes, mindfulness and well-being workshops, futsal, basketball, table tennis and chess tournaments, triathlon and duathlon competitions, workshops. work and open classes in capoeira, sailing, windsurfing, wrestling and BMX Race.

«During the Young March it is still possible to practice several sports for free at the Clube Naval D. João II de Alvor, at Cross Arade, at Villa Prana Guesthouse & Therapies, at the sports complexes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande and at the Municipal Swimming Pool of Portimão» , according to the Chamber.

In the area of ​​music and entertainment, the municipality highlights the “Battle of the Bands Marginália 2019” band contest, which will take place at Bar Marginália, in Portimão. The qualifiers are scheduled for the 8th, 15th and 22nd and the final will be on the 29th, always starting at 22:00.

Tributes will also be paid to the original bands System of a Down and Linkin Park at the “Rockfest”, scheduled for March 23, at Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha. The program also includes the special show “(H)odisseia” with the group of comedians from Portimão, Giletes D'Aço, on the 30th, in the auditorium of the Portimão Museum.

The aspect of education and training is also present in this 21st edition of the March Youth of Portimão.
In this field, the municipality highlights the new edition of Start Work – Education, Professional Training, Entrepreneurship and Employment Exhibition, which will take place from March 21st to 23rd at Portimão Arena.

The II Cycle of Photography and Design Workshops at the Gil Eanes Professional School of Portimão will also be held on March 11th and 12th and for the “Open Days” program of ISMAT – Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes, with workshops and seminars various, open classes and other activities.

On the last day of the month, Urban Sketchers Algarve will meet again in Portimão.

The Young March 2019 also calls for social spirit and awareness. On the 6th, the youngest people are challenged to collaborate in making food baskets to offer to social solidarity institutions, in an organization of the Food Bank Against Hunger of the Algarve.

On the 15th, those who are still young, but who are already of age, are invited to participate in the blood collection session that will take place at the sports pavilion, organized by the Barlavento do Algarve Blood Donors Association.

On the 14th and 15th, screenings for screening for the HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C and Syphilis viruses take place, under the responsibility of MAPS – Aids Support Movement, and on March 21st, awareness-raising actions on “Violence in the Dating” and on the rights of Portuguese youth, organized by the Regional Directorate of the Algarve of IPDJ – Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth.

March will also be exhibitions to visit at the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, the Museum of Portimão, the Continente Portimão Shopping Center and the Professional School Gil Eanes de Portimão, designed by young artists and students from the municipality's schools.

March Young is an initiative organized by the Municipality of Portimão, which involves thousands of young people and has the commitment of around fifty entities, including schools, clubs, associations and companies.
