The month of February, in São Brás de Alportel, will once again be dedicated to love. «love letters, ballads and serenades, lovers' handkerchiefs, music, cinema and poetry, among aphrodisiac flavors, will be the main ingredients of yet another cultural program “Romantic Month – São Brás de Alportel 2019”», says the City Council.
As part of this initiative, the Dr. Estanco Louro Municipal Library is promoting another edition of the “The Most Beautiful Love Letters” Contest, which «again challenges São Brasenses to rediscover the pleasure of writing love letters». Participants can submit their work until February 11th. The contest rules are available. here.
The winners of the youth edition (for young people from 15 to 20 years old) and the adult edition (for participants over 20 years old) receive a romantic dinner and a series of municipal editions as a prize. The most beautiful love letters will be presented in the second edition of “Trovas e Serenatas at Fonte dos Amores”, scheduled for February 23, at 15:30 pm, at Fonte Nova.
From February 13th to March 2nd, the Municipal Library presents the exhibition “Lenços de Amor”. This is an «initiative inspired by one of the oldest traditions of love that associates feeling with poetic and artistic form», explains the City Council of São Brás de Alportel. The works carried out by the students of the 1st cycle and the Group of Lines and Letters of the Municipal Library will be made known, which together recreated the traditional “Lenços dos Namorados” (“Lenços dos Namorados”).
Inspired by St. Valentine's Day, February 14, many restaurants in São Brás de Alportel also prepared special menus to celebrate this anniversary. The menus can be found at the website of the Municipality.
«Because love can and must be celebrated in the family», the Municipal Library promotes, on the 16th, a special reading workshop: “Reading with Pampering”. This initiative, with sessions at 15:00 pm and 16:00 pm, is aimed at children aged between six and 38 months and their parents and “seeks to raise awareness of the importance of promoting early reading habits”.
This «Romantic Month» also includes, on Saturday afternoon, the 23rd, the 2nd edition of the initiative “Trovas e Serenatas na Fonte dos Amores”, which takes place in Fonte Nova, in the historic center of São Brás de Alportel, with a program animation that integrates moments of music and poetry, without missing a romantic serenade.
On the 23rd, at night, at 21 pm, the São Brás Cineteatro reopens its doors after having received modernization works, to present another session of the Video Luce.
This show, which is promoted by CineClube de Faro and is part of the 365 program Algarve will have «the long-awaited screening» of the 1925 silent film “Charlotim e Clarinha”, written by São Brasense, Roberto Nobre, «a major figure in the history of cinema in Portugal, to whom the municipality of São Brás de Alportel pays homage to the Fiftieth Anniversary of his Death». The screening of the film will be accompanied live by Francisca Cortesão and Sérgio Nascimento.
In this Video Lucem session, the films “Enfer”, by Henri George-Clouzot (France, 1964, unfinished film, 15′) and “It's All True”, by Orson Welles (USA, 1943, unfinished film, 40) will also be screened. ′), with live accompaniment by Bruno Pernadas.
Tickets for this show are on sale at the Municipal Gallery and, on the day of the show, at the Cineteatro Ticket, from 20:30 pm.
