São Brás Local Security Contract outlines plan for this year

The action plan for 2019 includes a diverse set of actions, spread over four axes

The Operational Nucleus of the Local Security Contract of São Brás de Alportel had a meeting on the 8th of February, where it defined the strategy for this year. Combating domestic violence, preventing juvenile delinquency and the problems associated with alcoholism and drug use are some of the priorities. 

The action plan for 2019 includes a diversified set of actions, spread over four axes: reducing social vulnerabilities, urban space, preventing juvenile delinquency and promoting citizenship.

These are "commitments established by the various local entities and the decentralized central administration that make up the Local Security Contract, a platform that seeks to monetize the region's resources, in a network, in favor of promoting community safety", says the Chamber of São Brás.

Combating domestic violence, preventing juvenile delinquency and problems associated with alcoholism and drug use, responding to the challenges of an aging population and improving the response to the growing problems associated with mental illness are the priorities of the intervention.

The “Jovens Seguros <> Happy Families” project, promoted by the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, with funding from the Ministry of Internal Administration, is an example of the measures launched by this Local Security Contract.

Developed in a first phase, throughout 2018, under the local coordination of the In Loco Association, with good results, it was renewed in 2019, for a second phase, under the coordination of the Center for Culture and Sport of Workers of the City Council and Council of Parish, maintaining its foundations in an integrated intervention with young people and families and with new challenges, in the areas of Entrepreneurship and health promotion.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Secretary of State for Security Ângelo Marques, Vítor Guerreiro, Mayor of São Brás, Marlene Guerreiro, Vice President and Councilor David Gonçalves.

These were joined by the head of the Municipal Social Services unit, the coordinator of the Senior Intervention Group, the president of the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, the commander of the GNR, the coordinator of the Community Care Units, the director Executive of the Group of Health Centers – ACES Central and of the Delegate for Public Health and the president of the Board of the local IPSS, Center for Culture and Sports of Workers of the City Council and Parish Council.

Representatives of the Foreigners and Borders Service, the District Center for Social Security, the General Directorate of Educational Establishments, the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, the municipality's Committee for the Protection of Children and Youth and the technical team of the project were also present.
