The former Casa do Forno, a building located in the historic center of Silves, a short distance from the Almedina gate, will be transformed into the “Casa dos Vinhos”. To this end, the Municipality of Silves was recently approved, within the scope of CRESC Algarve, its candidacy for the conservation and rehabilitation of this building, which housed one of the most important bakeries in the city.
The total investment amounts to 301 thousand euros, with an ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) contribution rate of 70%.
According to the local authority, with this intervention, the intention is to make «the adaptation of the Oven building to an exhibition space, promotion and sale of endogenous products (wines and other products of local origin) taking advantage of the strategic location of passage, whether of residents , or tourists, between the riverside and the castle».
It is estimated that the rehabilitation of this building will be completed by the end of next July.
One of the most distinctive elements of Casa do Forno is the red brick chimney of the old bakery, which will be maintained.
