Schools in the municipalities of the Central Algarve joined en masse, those in the Barlavento Algarvio also sent more students and even young people "from Margem Sul" came to participate in another Open Day of the University of Algarve, which took place today.

Nearly 3 thousand people, of which «more than 2600 students of primary and secondary education», as well as parents and teachers, visited the two campuses this Thursday. Faro of UAlg, "a record value in the modality of just one day", he told the Sul Informação André Botelheiro, coordinator of the Communication Department of the Algarve university.

The university spokesperson speaks of "general growth" in demand and interest. “This year, there was a massive response from schools in the Central Algarve – Faro, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Loulé. There were many 12th grade students, who are not always able to come because they already have a very tight schedule. But it was noted that there was an effort to fit the Open Day. More students also came from the Barlavento Algarvio, Lagos and Portimão were in force», he revealed.

But there were also visitors from other regions. In addition to students from Alentejo, who are already a regular presence at UAlg's Open Day, there were also those who came “from Margem Sul, Almada and Barreiro” and from other places in the district of Setúbal.

“We noticed that many young people came from these areas on their own, in groups or accompanied by their parents”.

These and the other thousands of visitors that UAlg received today had many activities waiting for them, whose objective was to show, on the one hand, the educational offer that the university has to offer and, on the other, the different scientific areas existing in the institution.

Visits to laboratories, meetings with those responsible for the different organic units, technology demonstrations and even the practice of sports were part of the program.

“This year, we had some news. One activity that was very successful was a group dynamic promoted by the Psychology Department in the vocational area. It served to help students understand the choices they want to make in the future», revealed André Botelheiro to Sul Informação.

It was also noted “a great demand for the Instituto Superior de Engenharia and for courses in this area”.

For the coordinator of the UAlg Communication Office, this growing interest reveals that the Open Day «is already a tradition and something that students in primary and secondary education are waiting for».

André Botelheiro took the opportunity to highlight the participation of other students, those from UAlg, who volunteered to welcome their potential future colleagues.

“There were hundreds of students involved, on a voluntary basis. They participated in the Open Day with delivery, great pride, great professionalism and pride in presenting their courses», he praised.

Some of these young university students have even been on the other side, so they know very well what visitors are waiting for. "We even want them to deliver the message, as the age difference is smaller and it is possible to create another type of empathy", says the spokesperson for UAlg.

And who knows if in the near future some of the young people who visited the university, this Thursday, will not meet again – and this time on a more regular basis – with the approximately six hundred members of the academy who were involved in the dynamization of this Open Day.
