The construction of the new School Center of Mexilhoeira da Carregação begins in the beginning of 2020, but the changes for new pedagogical practices already started in 2018, emphasizes the Municipality of Lagoa.
According to the municipality, «learning and teaching in innovative environments» is a commitment by the Municipality to promote school success.
During the month of January, several sessions were held to present this project, involving the participation of the mayor Francisco Martins, various elements of the municipal executive, teams of architects and education technicians, specialists from the University of Algarve, parents, teachers and preschool and first cycle students of the school to be transformed.
«This is not just a project of the School Center of the School of Mexilhoeira da Carregação, but of the Municipality and of the entire municipality of Lagoa, as it does not only intend to build a new building, but to involve everyone in a much broader construction, which includes providing work tools to professionals», said Ana Martins, councilor with the responsibility for Education, at the opening of the last session open to the entire educating community, which took place on January 30 at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium.
The architect Luís Veríssimo, responsible for the project of the new school, explained, at the same time, that the process started three years ago has been incorporating contributions from various levels: from the initial program, to which was added «the president's vision of the future » and the consequent acquisition of a new parcel of land, which made it possible to expand the scope of the intervention, to the most diverse technical, technological and pedagogical suggestions coming from the different partners and recipients of the School.
By the end of 2019, the architectural project will "travel through the bureaucratic paths foreseen in these cases", and the work should start early next year, informed, at the same session, the responsible for the Municipality's strategic planning service, architect Nelson Marques.
In parallel, a «research-action-intervention program» has been under development since 2018, the year of the Educating City, under a protocol signed between the University of Algarve and the Câmara de Lagoa, which aims to «promote the success of everyone with everyone, through the development of a culture of autonomy, flexibility and inclusion, which enhances quality learning, and aligned with the current and future needs of students and the municipality», adds the municipality.
The “Escola Aprender+, Innovative Educating Environments” is thus preparing to be born in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, “the fruit of a marriage between the participation of the populations to which it is addressed, with the solutions of specialists in education, computing, architecture, engineering, among other areas”, promoted by the Chamber of Lagoa.
