Márcio Barbosa (Aviludo-Louletano) becomes national Cyclocross champion

The athlete Marcio Barbosa, from the professional cycling team Aviludo-Louletano, won the Portuguese Cyclocross Cup

Márcio Barbosa (Aviludo-Louletano) and Ana Santos (UC Vila do Conde) are the new national champions of cyclocross, in the elite category, after imposing themselves, this Sunday, in Marrazes, Leiria.

Less explosive than his opponents, mostly from BTT, the road professional Márcio Barbosa made a growing race, backwards. This performance, in line with his usual performance, ensured the native of Paços de Ferreira the victory of the National Championship.

Márcio Barbosa cut the goal isolated, relegating Mário Costa (UC Vila do Conde) to second place, at 14 seconds. The third placed, at 23 seconds, was Roberto Ferreira (BTT Seia).

The elite women's race was the stage for the takeover of power by the youth. Ana Santos, a first-year junior, risked enrolling in the competition for the superior category and showed that the option was conscious.

Vila-condense won alone, leaving its most direct rival, first-year under-23 Raquel Queirós (Quinta das Arcas/Jetclass/Xarão), at 1m21s. Last year's champion, Sandra dos Santos (CC Périgueux / Drodogne), spent 1m38s more than the winner, having to settle for third place.

The commander of the elite men's general at the Cup, Miguel Salgueiro (Sicasal/Constantinos), chose to compete in the under-23 in the National Championship.

The status of the Cup was of no avail, as the strongest was Bruno Silva (Quinta das Arcas/Jetclass/Xarão), who won the National Championship, leaving Salgueiro in the immediate place, at 16 seconds. The third, at 1m51s, was João Rocha (Rodabike/ACRG/Gondomar). The women's under-23 race had only one competitor, Rafaela Ramalho (Maiatos).

In the youth teams, the national titles were achieved by junior Diogo Neves (BTT Loulé/Elevis) and by cadets João Cruz (UC Vila do Conde) and Sara Ferreira (Maiatos).

In the veterans categories, the prominence fell to the masters 30 Michel Machado (Vasconha BTT Vouzela) and Nádia Mendes (Transfor), the masters 40 Afonso Ferreira and Flávia Vieira (Quinta das Arcas/Jetclass/Xarão), the master 50 António Sousa and the master 60 João Pinto (Boavista/Servigás/DuoBike/NAST).

The national cyclocross calendar ends next Sunday, in Melgaço, with the fifth and final competition of the Cup of Portugal. It will be the opportunity for the champions to debut their new jerseys.
