Júlio Resende receives “Personality of the Year” award at Lethes

Site Lugar ao Sul, which gives the distinction, considers Júlio Resende "a unique personality, who in 2018 cemented his position as one of the great musicians of the new generation of the national cultural scene"

Júlio Resende will receive the distinction of “Personality of the Year in the South 2019”, awarded by the opinion site Lugar ao Sul, on Sunday, January 27, at 17 pm, at Teatro Lethes, in Faro. The session has free entry, but seats are limited to the room's capacity.

For the columnists of the Algarve opinion website, the Algarve musician, pianist and composer is «a unique personality, who in 2018 cemented his position as one of the great musicians of the new generation of the national cultural scene».

«In 2018, Júlio Resende managed to impose his mark on a country that still lives deeply centralized. Furthermore, we understand that your way of looking at the world is in line with what we have been defending in Lugar ao Sul: we need more and better opinion. About this idea, Júlio Resende has a lapidary phrase: “People who say things! But try to think about them before you say it, it wouldn't be bad anymore", sums up the place to the south.

This is the second consecutive time that the blog has awarded this Personality of the Year distinction. In 2018, the distinguished personality was João Guerreiro, former rector of the University of Algarve and chairman of the Independent Technical Committee responsible for investigating the causes of the fire tragedies of 2017.

Júlio Resende, the 2019 winner, «participated in the Festival da Canção as composer of the song that Emmy Curl performed and had the opportunity to act, with Salvador Sobral, to an audience of millions of people around the world, alongside one of his idols, Caetano Veloso, at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon», writes Lugar ao Sul.

The stage has been insistently calling for Júlio Resende, continues the opinion site. «Whether solo, or in a duet with Salvador Sobral, or through their common project, the band Alexander Search, there were many concerts that definitively introduced him to the country in 2018».

Júlio Resende's most recent album, “Cinderella Cyborg”, was published in 2018. Jornal Público writes that this “is a name in which the pianist intends to reflect not a shock, but a meeting between what is most innocent and poetic – in life and in music – and the more mechanical and cold side associated with technology”.

This new album was named best Portuguese album of 2018 by the Altamont platform and was also considered among the best albums by the Observador team.

These are just a few of the many reasons Lugar ao Sul points out for choosing Júlio Resende as “Personality of the Year in the South 2019”.
