Photographer João Rodrigues awarded at the Cinclus Fest Nature Image Festival

Award-winning photograph by João Rodrigues, published in National Geographic Portugal magazine in December 2018

A photograph by João Rodrigues, resident in the Algarve for over a decade, received the 2nd place in the Fauna category, in the Vouzela Nature Image Festival (Inclus Fest).

The awarded image shows a mere photographed in the Marine Protected Area of ​​Monte da Guia, on the island of Faial (Azores). It was published in the magazine National Geographic, last December.

The nature photographer thanks the «opportunity to show the beauty of a successful Marine Protected Area in our country». This reserve, explains João Rodrigues, «is a defense mechanism for the marine world that needs to be replicated in our territory in favor of healthier ecosystems. Without prudent management of our resources, we will inevitably be jeopardizing their enjoyment by future generations».

Joao Rodrigues, F.otojournalist of Natural History and Conservation, specializing in marine ecosystems, is also preparing the book and short film “War Horses” that aims to raise awareness of the problem of seahorses in the Ria Formosa.
