Costa and Marcelo participate in the National Congress of Misericórdias in Albufeira

The event aims to define the main guidelines on which the Misericórdias' intervention strategy can be based in their different areas of activity.

António Costa, prime minister, and the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will participate in the 7th edition of the National Congress of Misericórdias, to be held between the 10th and XNUMXth of February, at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, at Herdade dos Salgados (Albufeira).

The opening session, scheduled for 17:30 pm on 7 February, will be chaired by Prime Minister António Costa.

This session will also be marked by the Prayer of Wisdom given by the minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security José Vieira da Silva, dedicated to the theme “The role of the social sector in the development of social policies in the Portuguese State”.

Interventions are also expected from José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, the provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Albufeira Patrícia Seromenho and the president of the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas Manuel de Lemos.

The closing session of the meeting, which takes place on February 9th, at 17 pm, will be chaired by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The 13th edition of the Congress of the Portuguese Misericórdias will bring together various individuals from civil society, politicians and businessmen to debate the panorama and the main challenges of the social sector, addressing issues related to the aging of the population, the role of the social economy, the sustainability of the Misericórdias , cooperation and the relationship with the State, the contribution of Santas Casas to the development of the national territory, the impact of the Basic Health Law, among many others.

The event also aims to define the main guidelines on which the Misericórdias' intervention strategy can be based in their different areas of activity.

In addition to the presence of the Head of State and the Prime Minister, the Congress will include the presence of the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security José Vieira da Silva, the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs António Mendonça Mendes and the Secretary of State for Social Security Cláudia Jardim.

The program includes the Parade of Irmandades, on the 7th of February, Thursday, which departs from the Igreja Matriz in Albufeira, at 15 pm, after the Eucharist by D. Manuel Neto Quintas, Bishop of the Algarve.

The parade will pass through Rua da Igreja Nova, Rua Miguel Bombarda, Rua da Battery, Av. 25 de Abril, Travessa and Rua dos Telheiros, Rua Sacadura Cabral, Bairro dos Pescadores, Rua das Telecomunicações, Praceta do Movimento das Forças Armadas and ends in the Town Hall building. All these arteries will be restricted to traffic between 15:30 and 16:45.
