Smells and flavors of roasted chorizo return to invade Querença

This is one of the most typical events of the village in the interior of the municipality of Loulé

The village of Querença, in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, is once again the stage for another Festival of Chorizos in Honor of S. Luís, to be held on 20 January.

The Festa starts, however, on the 19th, at 21 pm, with a night of fado that will take place at Casa do Povo in Querença. The fado singers Pedro Viola, Teresa Viola and Filipa Nobre will participate in the event, accompanied on the viola by Valentim Filipe and Tó Correia (guitar).

On Sunday, the 20th, from 11:00 am and in the afternoon, you will be able to enjoy the grilled chorizo sausages in the various establishments in Querença, some located in Largo da Igreja.

The religious celebration will begin at 14:30 pm, with a mass at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, presided over by Father Carlos Matos, which will be followed by a solemn procession with the image of S.Luís.

The usual and always lively auction of sausages is scheduled for 16:00 pm, followed by a performance by the Grupo de Cantares Alentejanos de Mértola (17:00 pm).

Throughout the event, and until 18 pm, there is also a small market with an exhibition and sale of handicrafts and local products, representative of the Algarve

From 19 pm onwards, the entertainment moves to the Casa do Povo de Querença Ballroom, with a ball by the accordionist Paulo das Vacas.

This is an initiative promoted by the Parish Festival Commission, with the support of the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim, the Municipality of Loulé and the Casa do Povo of Querença.

The roots of this event go back to a time when, in the interior of the Algarve, families had the habit of raising their pig for sustenance throughout the year. It was also a tradition to ask São Luís, the patron of animals, to keep the pig in good condition, in order to guarantee food for the household.
