Adelino Soares elected “Personality of the Year” by the Sports Confederation

Adelino Soares, mayor of Vila do Bispo, won the “Personality of the Year” award, awarded by the Portuguese Sports Confederation and presented this Wednesday, January 30, at the 23rd edition of the Gala do Desporto performed at the Estoril Casino.

The award, which this year has the theme "Sport for All", was awarded by the Confederation of Sport of Portugal under the proposal of the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS) in recognition of the municipality's performance in organizing the XXXI Underwater Fishing World Championship and the 2018st World Cup for Women's Underwater Fishing, held in Sagres in XNUMX.

According to the Vila do Bispo Chamber, “the event, which represented an important milestone for Portugal in the area of ​​underwater activities, was organized by the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) with the collaboration of the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS) and the Vila do Bispo City Council».

Athlete from the county Teresa Duarte was honored for winning the title of World Champion in Underwater Fishing. Joana Schenker also received the CNID award from the Association of Sport Journalists.

Every year the Confederation of Sports of Portugal organizes this event, considered as the “Oscars of Portuguese Sport”, to commemorate their achievements with athletes and sports officials, as it distinguishes, in addition to the personality of the year, the best sportsmen of the year. last season, in the categories of male athlete, female athlete, team, coach and young promise.

The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Education Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, and was also attended by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports João Paulo Rebelo.
