Users of Via do Infante wear yellow vests to protest against the tolls

CUVI returns to the street after the lead, in the Assembly of the Republic, of proposals for the elimination of tolls on the A22

The Commission of Users of Via do Infante will take to the streets on Saturday, 8 December, to protest against new proposals for the elimination of tolls on the A22. Protesters will "wear yellow vests" during the demonstration, scheduled for 11:00 am, in front of the Via Livre premises, in Loulé.

The movement decided to intensify the fight against tolls on the A22 after the PS rejected proposals for the elimination of toll collection on this highway, presented in the Assembly of the Republic "by various political forces".

This despite "the discussion of the State Budget for 2019 has brought strong hope to the Algarve regarding a considerable improvement in mobility for the region".

«The PS, once again, returned to vote against such proposals, while PSD and CDS abstained. In short, these three parties continue to be largely responsible for the economic and social attack that is committed daily in Via do Infante against the economy and populations of the Algarve», considered the anti-toll activists on the A22.

According to CUVI, these three parties “wasted yet another opportunity to redeem themselves from the serious mistakes they continue to impose on the Algarve”.

The movement even considers that, «it is, therefore, very clear, that the pious speeches given by PS, PSD and CDS are nothing but pure hypocrisy and pure acts of cynicism that only aim to deceive the people of the Algarve. In the same way, António Costa dropped the mask, showing that his promises for a better development of this region are not to be fulfilled, using them when it suits him».

The 2019 State Budget even contemplates "a small reduction in tolls at the beginning of 2019", but only for goods vehicles, a decision that CUVI considers "unfair and insufficient, as it will not cover the majority of vehicles".

"The fight for the abolition of tolls in the Algarve is what is needed and will have to be reinforced in the year 2019, covering all aspects of society in the Algarve", concluded the movement.
