A green Santa Claus, which will distribute trees instead of toys, entertainment for the youngest and a lot of Christmas spirit will mark the “Monchique Serra Natal” initiative, which runs until the end of the month.

This will be the first major event that Monchique City Council organizes since the great fire that ravaged the county in the summer. Thus, in addition to the stories and fantasies «so characteristic of this time», the initiative will also feature «several educational and educational activities. educational, with the message of preservation of the forest and the mountains», revealed the Municipality of Monchique.

It will be in this spirit that Santa Claus will dress in green, instead of the red that is normally associated with him, and will distribute gift trees.

This is just one of the attractions «of a vast program of activities that aims to liven up the village of Monchique and attract visitors» during the month of December.

Thus, initiatives will be promoted for various audiences. The already traditional Christmas Market will be open on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December, from 10 am to 00 pm, in Largo dos Chorões. Here, traditional crafts, new creations and regional food products can be purchased.

A carousel for children, an ice rink, Santa Claus' house and a wooden nativity scene will also be built. Visitors can also count on children's entertainment, competitions, concerts and other initiatives.

Christmas lighting will also be installed, not only in the Vila, but also in the parishes of Marmelete and Alferce, which will light up on Saturday, December 8th and will remain on until January 6th.
