Screening for breast cancer arrives in Tavira on 17 December

Mobile Unit will be next to the Tavira Health Center until the end of January

The ARS Algarve Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit will receive, in Tavira, until the 31st of January of this year, users registered at the Health Center of this city, for free screening, from 9:30 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 16:30 pm ( working days).

Women between 50 and 69 years old, registered at the Tavira Health Center, will be called by letter, sent by the ARS Algarve Screening Nucleus, with an appointment/invitation to have a digital mammogram carried out free of charge in the mobile unit, within the scope of the Program of Breast Cancer Screening in the Algarve.

This screening carried out in 3D, with Tomosynthesis, and computer-aided diagnosis (CAD), allows to increase the rate of detection of breast cancers, reduce false positives and the dose of radiation applied in each exam.

Since July 2017, breast cancer screening has been carried out through a new mobile unit that has allowed the Algarve to be the first region in the country to carry out screening with this latest generation technology.

The Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve, carried out in partnership with the Oncological Association of the Algarve and the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, began in September 2005 and covers all the Algarve's municipalities, and is currently on its seventh round .

The call, referral, management and monitoring of the program are carried out by the ARS Algarve Tracking Nucleus.

In case of doubt (and if you have not yet received the letter inviting you to take the exam), contact the ARS Algarve Tracking Center through the helpline 289 88 99 12 (working days from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm: XNUMX hours) or by e-mail: [email protected]
