Pedro Valadas Monteiro is the new Regional Director for Agriculture and Fisheries in the Algarve

The one chosen by the Government, after a selection process by CReSAP, had already been deputy regional director

João Pedro Valadas da Silva Monteiro, better known as Pedro Valadas Monteiro, 48, will be, from Saturday, 15 December, the new Regional Director for Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve (DRAPALG).

The order of his appointment to the position, "under a service commission regime for 5 years", was published today in Diário da República.

The order, which takes effect from the 15th, is signed jointly by the secretaries of State for Agriculture and Food, Luís Medeiros Vieira, and for Fisheries, José Apolinário. The choice of Pedro Valadas Monteiro is the result of an open competition within the scope of the Recruitment and Selection Commission for Public Administration (CReSAP), last May.

Pedro Valadas Monteiro, who is a visiting assistant professor at the University of Algarve, is a researcher at the Center for Research on Space and Organizations (CIEO) at UAlg and was the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development at CReSAP.

He is also a senior technician at the Regional Directorate, where he will now assume top management functions. This is, by the way, a house that he knows very well, as he has already held several positions and functions there, having even been deputy regional director of DRAPALG between 2009 and 2012, when it was directed by Joaquim Castelão Rodrigues.

He also has a degree in Agronomic Engineering, in the field of Rural Engineering, from the Superior Institute of Agronomy of the Technical University of Lisbon, having later completed his PhD in Management at the University of Évora.

Pedro Valadas Monteiro is a specialist in rural and territorial development, economy of the sea, environment, management, innovation and entrepreneurship.

He replaces the former regional director Fernando Severino, whose service commission is now coming to an end and has not been reappointed.
