New Conservatory of Music and Arts in Lagos guarantees support from the City Council

The local authority also provided facilities for the new conservatory, the former Gil Eanes school and the Igreja das Freiras

The new Conservatory of Music and Arts of Lagos, will receive a subsidy of 32 thousand euros from the City Council of that city, in a decision taken at the most recent meeting of the executive.

It is a structure recently created by the Association of Grupo Coral de Lagos, which contracted with the Ministry of Education/General Directorate of Schools (DGEstE) for the period 2018 to 2024, the specialized teaching of music to students of the municipality of Lagos.

The new school is open to students who, being enrolled in official public education, attend the artistic component at the Initiation level and in an articulated regime at Basic and Secondary levels, in schools in the Private and Cooperative Education network supported by the State.

The financial support now approved by the municipality is intended to contribute to the provision of musical instruments for the Conservatory and the maintenance of existing ones, «reinforcement identified as necessary in this start-up phase, given the objective, foreseen in the Association's activity plan, of extending the range of subjects and to allow the collective and individual use of instruments by students».

The Municipality of Lagos is also supporting this pedagogical structure in terms of the provision of facilities, since the school is operating in the former building of the Gil Eanes Secondary School – currently under municipal management, as a multipurpose space that hosts different areas, all of them linked to formal and non-formal education and aimed at different audiences and age groups – and in the cultural space “Igreja das Freiras” (Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo) which has as resident the Associação Grupo Coral de Lagos.

From DGEstE, the Conservatory of Music and Arts of Lagos will receive, in the academic year 2018/2019, funding in the amount of 401.080 euros, with the total value of the sponsorship contract, for the period 2018 to 2024, of 1.594.160. XNUMX euros.

This amount is intended to cover annually a number of 16, 127 and 12 students, respectively from Initiation, Articulated Basic and Articulated Secondary.
