Lagos wants to be a «reference city» in sport

Strategic Plan for the Municipality's Sports Development has already been presented

Making Lagos a «reference city in terms of federated sport and leisure», by 2021, is the main objective of the Strategic Plan for the Municipal Sports Development (PEDD) which has already been presented.

The presentation session, led by the deputy mayor of Lagos Hugo Pereira, «had a strong participation of sports agents, namely representatives of groups of schools, companies, clubs and/or sports associations», according to the municipality.

For the municipal executive, sport in Lagos is «a tool for social cohesion, which creates and distributes resources and opportunities in a balanced way among citizens, and which accompanies them throughout their life as a continuous project».

The presentation gave an account of what has already been done, what is being done, and what remains to be done in this area, corresponding to the three parts of the development of the PEDD.

The Strategic Plan groups the projects and actions to be developed around four intervention axes, each of which seeks to achieve specific objectives.

The first axis concerns the increase in the number of sports practitioners, while the second is related to the creation of more sporting initiatives in the low season, promoting the development of the local economy.

As for the third axis, it is related to improving sports spaces for recreation and outdoor leisure, and the fourth, and last, defends more dynamic and cohesive partnerships.

«To increase the sports offer in the municipality (at school, health, leisure/leisure and sport-tourism levels), the Municipality intends to continue to carefully support the local associative movement and also bet on synergies with private partners».
