CP launches tender for the purchase of 22 railcars

CP – Comboios de Portugal will launch, on the 7th of January, an international public tender for the acquisition of 22 automotive units. 

The announcement has just been made by the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure. The contest has a global base value of 168 million euros.

According to the resolution of the Council of Ministers, the electrification of the Minho, Douro, Beira Baixa, Oeste and Algarve lines accentuates the “need to acquire new rolling stock that will ensure the service on electrified lines”.

For this reason, it is necessary to «acquire 12 Bimode Self-propelled Units, in order to ensure the transition to full electrification of the rail network, and 10 Electrical Self-propelled Units and respective parking parts and special tools», it reads.
