Commission positively appreciates the performance of CRESC Algarve2020

Committee met at the CCDR, in Faro

The Monitoring Committee of CRESC Algarve 2020 positively assessed the program's performance levels, at a meeting held at the headquarters of the Regional Coordination and Development Committee (CCDR), in Faro.

This assessment was based, for example, on the short-term indicators for monitoring implementation and commitment.

During the Monitoring Committee meeting, before representatives of the European Commission and the Agency for Cohesion and Development, local authorities in the region and various public and private organizations, the chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Committee (CCDR Algarve ) and the Board of Directors of CRESC Algarve 2020 Francisco Serra stressed that the «the execution rate is at 17%, but with good growth prospects until the end of the year», with a commitment rate of around 60% of the funds. from the program.

This meeting of the Monitoring Committee (the 10th at the CCDR premises) also served to review the status of the implementation of the nine priority intervention axes, as well as the expectations for the Algarve resulting from the Portugal 2020 reprogramming and the implemented actions under the Communication Strategy of CRESC Algarve 2020, particularly on investments and events within the scope of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

After the meeting, a delegation from the Monitoring Committee visited the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in Faro, where they had the opportunity to learn about the state of development of the Technological Specialization Courses (CET's), in various areas of hotel activity, promoted by Turismo de Portugal, and co-financed under the CRESC Algarve 2020, with funds from the European Social Fund (FSE ).

In the specific case of CRESC Algarve 2020, the funds available from the ESF total 94,3 million euros applicable to projects to be developed in the priority axes “Investing in Employment”, “Affirming Social and Territorial Cohesion”, “Strengthening Skills” and “ Modernize and Empower the Administration”.

The Algarve Hotel and Tourism School was created in 1967 with a view to improving the qualification levels of the population employed in the Algarve's hotel, restaurant and tourism industry.

The School has been installed in the former São Francisco Convent since 1995 and, after restoration and adaptation works designed by the architect Carrilho da Graça, the building offers better conditions for conducting training for young people and adults in the sector.

In addition to the initial training of young people in the double certification typology, in the areas of Kitchen/Pastry, Catering and Drinks and Tourism and Hotel Operations, the School also conducts CET's in the areas of cooking, Pastry, Catering and Drinks, Accommodation, Tourism and Open Air Tourism, with the support of European Union funds.

In parallel, for the sector's assets, who seek through training to improve their skills and generate career progression mechanisms, the School promotes a set of training actions in the various technical, behavioral, management, languages, consultancy areas, among others. .
