Friends of Cortelha recreate the pig slaughter on a tour of the Serra

Participants will be able to watch "a reenactment of the usual tasks performed by mountain men and women on this day"

The Friends of Cortelha association will promote a tour in which they will recreate the slaughter of the pig, a mountain tradition at this time of year, on January 13th, at 9:30 am, in this village in the municipality of Loulé.

Participants will have the opportunity to watch "a reenactment of the usual tasks that are performed on this day by mountain men and women", in addition to enjoying the landscapes of Serra do Caldeirão, according to the Friends of Cortelha.

Those who make the journey with the Amigos da Cortelha will be able to «observe some of the routines that until recently were part of the daily life of the people of the Algarve mountains and in the end are all gifted with a small meal of delicacies associated with the slaughter of the pig».

In this way, the association carries out «another walk with mountain traditions that are sometimes unknown in other places further along the coast».

The route to be covered is approximately 11 kilometers long. Although the tour itself starts at 9:30 am, participants will need to confirm their registration from 8:30 am.

The organization will also provide constant support to participants, with the distribution of water, fruit and cakes. After the participants enjoy the mountain snack, they will be able to stroll through the Mercadinho Serrano that takes place in Largo da Associação.

This activity is organized by the Association of Friends of Cortelha and has the support of the Municipality of Loulé and the Parish Council of Salir.
