Students from the EB Rio Arade School were Journalists at the Belém Palace

Algarvian students participated in a debate at the Presidency of the Republic

The 9°B class of the Rio Arade Basic School (Parchal – Lagoa) was one of the classes selected for the Journalists Program at the Belém Palace, which is the result of an invitation from the Presidency of the Republic to schools across the country.

With this initiative, the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa underlines the importance of accurate information in civic education and in deepening democracy.

And so, on December 11th, the group of 26 students, accompanied by their class director Cristina Jesus and Social Educator Filipa Ferreira, headed to Lisbon for a debate between journalist Mafalda Anjos (director of the magazine Visão) and the Algarvian students at the Belém Palace.

The President of the Republic participated in the session and invited the young journalists' apprentices for a snack on the veranda of the Belém Palace.

In order to ensure a true meaning to the meetings, the teachers involved in the activity's dynamics assumed the commitment to sensitize students to the role of information in the contemporary era and to promote the preparation of questions about the importance of each citizen being informed about events relevant in our country and in the world.
