Algarve is one of 5 regions to benefit from 26 million to support slow-growing trees

Support is intended to promote the adaptation of forests to climate change and to mitigate its effects

A competition to improve the resilience and environmental value of forests is open until January 11th. The support, totaling 26 million euros, is intended to promote the adaptation of forests to climate change and to mitigate its effects, as well as to rehabilitate populations in poor vegetative conditions.

This is a regionalized competition, with the value of support being differentiated by five regions (Algarve, Alentejo, Lisbon, Center and North).

Funded by the PDR 2020 Rural Development Program, through Measure 8.1.5, the competition aims to support slow-growing forest species, namely through their use to replace areas occupied by fast-growing species. Support also covers land clearing.

Only one application per beneficiary is allowed, with the exception of Forest Intervention Zone Management Entities (ZIF) which may submit an application for each ZIF, and public collective entities which may submit an application for each National Forest and for each forest perimeter.

Applications can be submitted using the form that is available on the Portugal 2020 portal ou of the PDR.
