UAlg wants to take Algarvian companies to Morocco and bring students from there

The Algarve University has signed protocols with Moroccan institutions in the fields of education, as well as innovation and technology transfer

The University of Algarve signed protocols with counterparts in the Kingdom of Morocco that open the door of this country to Portuguese companies and will allow Moroccan master's students to come to the region to study.

A delegation that brought together representatives and professors from various universities in that Mediterranean country visited the Algarve last Friday to celebrate various agreements. Along the way, the common heritage of Portugal and Morocco was highlighted, as well as the cooperation that comes from the past.

“We had the signing of some important protocols here. One of them is in the area of innovation and technology transfer, which could boost economic relations between the two countries and facilitate the presence of Portuguese companies in Morocco and vice versa», he revealed to Sul Informação the rector of the University of Algarve Paulo Águas.

In this case, the protocol was established "with a technological pole of the University of Hassan I, in Settat, which they designate as technological city".

On the way, the University of the Algarve paid tribute to Ahmed Nejmeddine, the president of the University of Hassan I, “who is now finishing his functions and who has established very strong relations with the University of the Algarve”.

Three specific protocols were also signed, both with the Higher Education Institution of Settat, with the Moahmmed V University and the Agronomic and Veterinary Institute Hassan II, both from Rabat, «which we hope can be translated with the arrival of students Moroccans for UAlg Master's Degrees in the area of information technology, management and horticulture».

“Moroccan students will benefit from special conditions. There will be a differentiation in the value of fees, in order to attract these students, but it will be beneficial for both parties», assured Paulo Águas.

In the three Master's Degrees in question here, “students have to apply for a Master's Degree in Morocco and, at the same time, apply for ours. To enter, they will have to have merit, as there are no special vacancies».

“Part of the training takes place in Morocco and is credited by UAlg, under the terms of the law in force. And the training they do here will also be credited at their home university. While they are here, they are UAlg students and pay different tuition fees, as they do not do the entire program here,” added the UAlg dean.

For the 1st Councilor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Portugal, the signing of the different protocols will allow “increasing the exchange of teachers and students from our two countries”.

Yassin Khatib also stressed, in statements to Sul Informação, the increase in economic cooperation currently taking place between Portugal and Morocco, noting that “the ambassador himself was not here today because he had a commitment to talk about energy and the energy interconnection between the two countries, a very important and which is progressing towards its realization'.

"Also on the economic side, we are preparing meetings between Portuguese and Moroccan companies, in the energy, automation, aeronautics and textile sectors, to see what are the possibilities for business between the private sector of the two countries", added the Moroccan diplomat .
