Three wines from the Algarve were awarded in the 5th Wine Contest of the Crédito Agrícola, an initiative promoted in partnership with the Associação dos Escanções de Portugal.
Paxá Wines, from Silves, received a silver medal for the QO Reserva Vinho Regional 2014. The Única – Adega Cooperativa do Algarve saw the Porches Vinho Regional 2017 awarded gold.
Concepts by Edd's II (Lagoa) Edd's Reserva Vinho Regional 2014 received a red gold medal. Lagoa says that he is "joyful at this distinction" with two wines from the municipality.
Of the 240 white, red and sparkling wines put to the test by 143 national producers from the various wine regions of the country, the jury distinguished, during blind tastings held on 20 October, at Campo Pequeno Wine Market, 71 wines with Tambuladeira of the Escanções de Portugal, 40 with gold medals and 31 with silver medals.
The awards ceremony was attended by Francisco Toscano Rico, president of the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho, the entity that certifies the competition, the president of the Board of the Wine Commission of the Lisbon Region Bernardo Gouvêa and the regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries of Lisbon and Tagus Valley Elizete Jardim
The event was led by Sílvia Alberto and brought together 200 hundreds of guests, including producers, representatives of cooperatives, winemakers, sommeliers and responsible for the Agricultural Credit from all over the country.
In this 5th edition, wines from the wine regions of Vinhos Verdes (6 medals), Douro (8 medals), Trás-os-Montes (1 medal), Dão (6 medals), Bairrada (4 medals), Tejo (7 medals) were distinguished ), Lisbon (9 medals), Setúbal Peninsula (7 medals), Alentejo (20 medals) and Algarve (3 medals).
With this competition, which puts the quality of national wines to the test, the Crédito Agrícola intends to support the wine sector and the development of local economies.
