PCP Demands Answers on Change of Plans for New PSP Squad of VRSA

Government revealed to the communists that the new squadron will, after all, be built in the old Customs building

The new PSP squadron in Vila Real de Santo António will be built in the old Customs building and not in the current GNR post, as planned. A change in plans that the PCP hopes will not indefinitely postpone this work, whose completion has long been demanded by the communists, and which has already led this party to ask the Government a set of questions.

The PCP “has been denouncing the deplorable conditions of the PSP squadron in Vila Real de Santo António” since 2014. At the time, the Government of Pedro Passos Coelho announced that an intervention would be carried out in 2015, which “did not materialize”

In 2016, and already after the change of Government, the communists again questioned the authority on this matter, which «recognized that the PSP squadron in Vila Real de Santo António did not present adequate conditions for the performance of the mission of a security force. and that its state of degradation had worsened in recent years, so the construction of a new squadron was one of the priorities identified by the Ministry of Internal Administration».

About a year ago, the Government assured the PCP that it intended to build a new post for the GNR, in VRSA, to be completed in 2019, and that the building currently occupied by this police force would be transferred to the PSP.

But, as revealed by Isabel Oneto, Deputy Secretary of State and Internal Administration, in the debate on the specialty of the State Budget, there was “a change of plans: the new PSP squad would no longer be in the current GNR post, but in the old building of the Customs Office of Vila Real de Santo António».

An alteration that raised several doubts to the PCP, which, through Paulo Sá, deputy elected by the Algarve, asked the Minister of Internal Administration if there is already a project prepared to carry out the work, when the work will start and when the new squadron is expected is completed. The communists also want to know "what is the amount entered in the 2019 State Budget for these works".
