Monchique hosts the 9th Regional Environmental Volunteering Meeting

On the second day, Environmental Volunteer Actions take place, with training in the field and removal of invaders and cleaning actions

The 9th Regional Meeting of Environmental Volunteering for Water takes place on the 23rd and 24th of November, in the auditorium of Caixa Agrícola, in Monchique, organized by the Portuguese Environment Agency/ARH Algarve.

On the first day of the meeting, to mark the National Day of the Autochthonous Forest, the seminar “Ecology and development – ​​educational resources for communities” will take place between 14 pm and 18 pm, recognized as a short-term training action for teachers.

The seminar is intended to raise awareness of the «questions of the interdependence of current development challenges and the necessary sharing of responsibilities in view of the sensitivity of ecosystems, as well as to disseminate innovative projects in this area and to raise awareness of the “Europe for Citizens” program. as a financial instrument for citizenship”.

The initiative opens with a presentation on the projects «Environmental Volunteering for Water and LIFE Volunteer Escapes», by Paula Vaz and Carlos Reis, from APA/ARH Algarve.

This was followed by the conferences «Travel Notebook – Educating for global citizenship through Integral Ecology», by Anita Cruz and Sandra Fernandes (FGS), «Coerência.pt – The axis of development Together for Change, Coerencia.PT and the World to the World Mesa", by Margarida Alvim and Pedro Franco (FEC), "Equipment Network for Environmental Education in the Algarve (RepEA)", by Helena Barracosa (REpEA and CFAE do Levante), as well as "Program for Europe for Citizens – Funding for Citizenship”, by a representative of the CIEJD.

On the second day, the Scouts of Vila Real de Santo António (Group 60) and the Scouts of the 1370 Group (of the CNE), as well as other volunteers, participate in an environmental volunteer action to remove invasive species and, simultaneously, in an action cleaning, with the support of the Municipality of Monchique and the A Nossa Terra association.

APA, in collaboration with several entities, has developed in recent years the “Environmental Volunteering for Water” project, whose main objective is to promote education for the conservation and sustainability of freshwater ecosystems and coastal and transitional waters.

To this end, initiatives are carried out through volunteers, through campaigns to monitor and enhance water resources in the Algarve.
