Lagoa creates a museum center with the heritage of former cooperative wineries

Única – Adega Cooperativa do Algarve will donate the estate it inherited from the former cooperatives in Lagos and Lagoa to the City Council

Única – Adega Cooperativa do Algarve will make official the donation of the archives and bibliographic assets of the former cooperative wineries of Lagoa and Lagos to the Câmara de Lagoa, in a session scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at 18 pm.

The Câmara de Lagoa intends to make this heritage known to «Lagoenses and visitors to the county in a museological route to be created in the Adega's own facilities».

In addition to the documentary archive, the Adega Cooperativa do Algarve «owns a vast array of winery equipment, from agricultural machinery and implements to bottles of wine and spirits produced by it», elements that will be used to create the museum nucleus.

«This is a set of objects related to this economic activity, which served as the basis for the operation of the aforementioned wineries and which have significant heritage value in the field of industrial archeology, obsolete, given the technological evolution and manufacturing processes, but in a reasonable state of conservation», according to the Municipality of Lagoa.

This heritage was inherited by Única in 2008, when the incorporation that gave rise to the Adega Cooperativa do Algarve took place.

"The archival heritage resulting from this merger constitutes an invaluable heritage, not only for the memory of the municipality of Lagoa and the Algarve region, but also of great relevance for the knowledge of the history of Portuguese wine production in the second half of the XNUMXth century", he considers the autarchy.

“A team of specialists from the municipality will be responsible for the integral safeguarding of this heritage (document processing, packaging, organization and dissemination), facilitating its study by researchers, and its knowledge by all interested citizens”, he adds.
