In Loco wins Young Volunteer Good Practices Award for Nature and Forests

Distinction is due to the “Forests Ours” project

The In Loco association won the Young Volunteer Good Practices Award for Nature and Forests, awarded this Wednesday, November 21, by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).

The distinction is due to the “Forests Nossas” project.

These youth volunteer projects took place between August and October and were aimed at raising awareness among young volunteers and the community in general about the importance of preserving the natural heritage and supporting local entities in monitoring and cleaning the forests of the São Brás de Alportel municipalities , Faro and Tavira.

With the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of São Brás de Alportel, training was given to make known how the work performed by the Firefighters works and, in the event of fire or rescue, how they work and how young people can collaborate.

With Zen Sup Stand Up Paddle, a Stand Up Paddle school that performs walks in the Ria Formosa and sensitizes young people to contact and respect for Nature, volunteers could learn to do Stand Up Paddle, as a way to perform a cleaning in more remote locations in the Ria Formosa.

On this journey 125 kilos of garbage were collected.

As for the Portuguese Army, the training carried out aimed to get to know up close the work developed by this force and how they carry out surveillance in the mountains.

With the RIAS (Wild Animal Research and Recovery Center), volunteers learned what to do if they find an animal that is injured and in need of help during surveillance.

With the GIPS (Protection and Relief Intervention Group) of the GNR in Cachopo, the young people were able to get to know firsthand what work they do with firefighters in the event of a fire and explore the helicopter and all its features up close.
