Feira da Perdiz once again showed Alcoutim's hunting potential

The event is "a contribution to strengthening the municipality's identity"

A XI Feira da Perdiz once again showed, last weekend, November 10th and 11th, the hunting potential of Alcoutim municipality. 

The José Rosa Pereira Municipal Pavilion, in Martim Longo, was the stage for the event, which had «hundreds of national and foreign visitors». Everyone was able to enjoy the «opportunity to enjoy the many activities, shows and delicacies of the Fair».

Organized by the Municipality of Alcoutim and by the Association for the Ethnographic and Cultural Development of Martim Longo (ADECMAR) in collaboration with several entities, the Perdiz Fair was attended by dozens of exhibitors, in the most different areas, of which hunting, are examples, handicrafts and regional sweets.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Osvaldo Gonçalves, Mayor of Alcoutim, and Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development.

This event “integrated a program of a very eclectic nature, with activities such as equestrian shows, colloquia, greyhound racing, dog competition, march-race, falconry, tasting, musical entertainment”, according to the municipality.

From the Fair's programme, the gastronomic promotion of the region stands out, «with great emphasis on the quality of endogenous products and on the need to value and promote the traditional way of “knowing how to do”».

For example, during the event, there was a tasting “Talega do Caçador – The Worst of Pork”, carried out by the local company “Feito no Zambujal”, which delighted those present with a smoked muzzle salad, xarem with cured jowls, pork heart with caramelized onion and carrot pickles and liver toast with onion.

Custódio Moreno, regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), during the march-race paid a small tribute to Luís Conceição, councilor with the responsibility for Sports, for having led the women's futsal team to win the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games. 

According to Osvaldo Gonçalves, Feira da Perdiz is "a contribution to strengthening the municipality's identity, promoting the region's hunting potential and enhancing and promoting our gastronomy, as well as other high quality endogenous products."
