Six people saved at sea in Carvoeiro

Victims were conscious but with symptoms of exhaustion and hypothermia

Five people, who were being dragged by the current of the sea, and another, who had gone to their aid, were rescued this Sunday afternoon, October 14, at Carvoeiro beach (Lagoa). 

According to the National Maritime Authority, the alert was received at 13:25 pm. Ferragudo's lifeguard and a semi-rigid Maritime Police vessel were sent to the site.

Three victims were of British nationality, aged 40, 13 and 10 years. The other two were German and were 56 and 13 years old.

"When they arrived at the scene, they proceeded to rescue six people: three of them were clinging to a buoy belonging to the corridor in front of the beach, another two were in the surf, with imminent risk of drowning, and a sixth person who had gone to help" .

All victims were rescued to Ferragudo and then transported by firefighters from Lagoa to Hospital de Portimão, conscious, but with symptoms of exhaustion and hypothermia.

The National Maritime Authority warns of the fact that "in situations of bad weather and strong maritime agitation", it is necessary to "avoid the practice of bathing activities".
