Poetry “invades” Olhão and not even Caique Bom Sucesso escapes

International Meeting is already «one of the most relevant in the South of the Iberian Peninsula»

Exhibitions, book presentations, lectures and even poetry aboard the Caique Bom Sucesso. This is how the IV International Poetry Meeting in the South will be held from October 19th to 28th, in Olhão. 

This festival also includes musical moments, recitation of poems, visits to schools in Olhão and trips to Ayamonte (Spain), as well as to the Algarve councils of Castro Marim and Lagos.

In this year's edition, the initiative organized annually by the Municipality of Olhão is dedicated to João Lúcio, on the centenary of his death. The program starts at 17 pm on the opening day, next to the statue of the poet from Olhão, with street entertainment and music, with the presence of many of the poets invited to this edition.

Casimiro de Brito (Portugal), Teresa Rita Lopes (Portugal), Catherine Dumas (France), Maria Teresa Horta (Portugal), Manuel Moya (Spain), Maria do Rosário Pedreira (Portugal), Iris Violeta Pujol (Puerto Rico), Márcia Souto (Brazil), Uberto Stabile (Spain), Chi Trung (Vietnam), Antonio Orihuela (Spain) or Yasmina Tippenhauer (Colombia) are some of the authors who are present in Olhão these days.

Commissioned by the poet Fernando Cabrita, Poesia a Sul, «is a unique literary encounter on the national scene and one of the most relevant in the south of the Iberian Peninsula», according to the Chamber of Olhão.

The poetry that is made in the world reaches various stages of the city every year through this event which, in this fourth edition, has the institutional support of the cultural program 365Algarve and has radio stations Antena 1 and Antena 2 as media partners.

With around 70 confirmed participants, from 16 countries, and in addition to initiatives in Castro Marim, Lagos and Ayamonte, Olhão hosts, during these 10 days, cultural events in such emblematic places as the Municipal Auditorium, the António Rosa Municipal Archive Mendes, Sociedade Recreativa Progresso Olhanense, Re-Criativa República 14, Municipality of Olhão, Jardim João Lúcio, Municipal Museum – Compromisso Marítimo Building, Galeria Sul, Sol e Sal, Municipal Markets, Caique Bom Success or some of the bars in the markets.
