The Algarve Regional Health Administration, through the Rastreios Núcleo, is promoting, between the months of October and December, a Breast Cancer Screening, in the municipalities of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António. This screening is part of the Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve.

All women aged 50 to 69, enrolled in the Health Centers of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, will receive a letter from the ARS Algarve Screening Center with an appointment/invitation to undergo a free digital mammogram at the Mobile Unit. is located next to the Health Center of Vila Real de Sto. António, from 09:30 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 16:30 pm, on weekdays.

ARS Algarve highlights that «the screening is carried out in the Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit in 3D, with Tomosynthesis and computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD), with the Algarve being the first region in the country to carry out the screening with this state-of-the-art technology generation".

According to the organization, this method "allows to significantly increase the rate of detection of breast cancers, reduce false positives and the number of women called for consultations, reduce the radiation dose applied in each exam and reduce program costs" .

The Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve, promoted in partnership with the Oncological Association of the Algarve and the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, started in September 2005 and is carried out through a mobile unit that travels throughout the Algarve's municipalities.

This is already the seventh round of the mobile unit, with the call, referencing, management and monitoring of the program carried out by the ARS Algarve Tracking Nucleus.

In case of doubt, or if you have not yet received the letter inviting you to take the exam, you can contact the ARS Algarve Tracking Center through the helpline 289889912 (working days from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm) or by email : [email protected].
