Montemor-o-Novo promotes Night of Dark Creatures…and it has nothing to do with witches

Participants will travel the greenway to discover the unfairly infamous creatures of darkness

The Night of Creatures of Darkness will take place at Ecopista do Montado, in Montemor-o-Novo, on the 31st of October, from 20:00.

With the entrance to the Ecopista as a meeting point, the challenge is to ask the participants to appear masked and come along the Ecopista (at night) to observe the "dark creatures" (amphibians, bats, nocturnal prey, nocturnal butterflies, arachnids, etc.).

Thus, the organization intends, with the help and participation of specialists from the University of Évora, to take advantage of the Night of the Witches to scientifically present to the population the nocturnal animals that are popularly associated with this festival and that, because they are the target of myths , superstitions and beliefs, are related to the supernatural.

"These beliefs and myths have been responsible for alienating the population of these animals and leading to persecution behaviors that have contributed to the unfavorable conservation states in which many of these species find themselves", explain the organizers.

To alleviate these fears, the invitation is for participants to take their family and friends and join in an evening full of animals and lots of fun.

Registration is free, but mandatory and must be made to the email [email protected] (limited to the participation of 25 people).

This is an organization within the scope of the LIFE LINES project (LIFE14/NAT/PT/001081), in which, among others, the Municipality of Montemor-o-Novo and the University of Évora are partners.
