Lagos celebrates World Animal Day with a solidarity visit to Lagos Zoo and “Cãominhada”

Proceeds from the visit to Lagos Zoo are reviewed to support stray animal sterilization campaigns

A solidarity guided visit to Lagos Zoo, on October 4th, at 17:30 pm, and a “Cãominhada” on Sunday, the 7th, will mark World Animal Day in the municipality of Lagos.

The two initiatives are promoted by the Câmara de Lagos in conjunction with the Zoological Park and the Cadela Carlota Association, to mark the World Animal Day, which is celebrated on 4 October, the day of São Francisco de Assis, patron of animals and the ecology.

The actions aim to "raise the community's awareness of the need to respect animal rights, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration and protected by the current legal framework."

The guided visit to Lagos Zoo requires registration and payment of a lower ticket. “The proceeds collected from this action will revert to support sterilization campaigns for stray animals”, explains the Câmara de Lagos.

The “Cãominhada”, promoted by Cadela Carlota, is followed by a dog show for adoption by the association and the Lagos Municipal Kennel.

Those interested in participating can walk one of the dogs that are looking for an owner, from the kennel, or from the shelter, or bringing their own dog.

The meeting point is at 10:00 am at Praça do Infante, in Lagos.

The organization warns of the need for participants to take their dog's regular vaccination report.
